Book Brigade

4:00 PM - 7:00 PM

Event Details

Ames Public Library’s renovation and expansion is almost complete! The Library will close at the temporary location August 18 and reopen at 515 Douglas Avenue on September 14.

All ages are invited to celebrate the move by helping us pass 14 specially selected books along a human chain from the temporary location to the renewed library in a ceremonial Book Brigade. Please join the brigade on Main Street or Grand Avenue. Who knows—maybe we'll set a Guinness World Record!

Afterwards, the celebration will continue at Bandshell Park with fun for all ages including free performances by
  • indie rock band Doctor Murdock,
  • hip hop artist Kris Clarke,
  • storyteller Maureen Korte, and
  • local Indian dance group ISU Raas.
Balloon artist Becca Wemhoff will also be there to share her creations.

Groups of 20 or more are encouraged to contact us in advance by e-mailing

If you would like to volunteer to help organize the Book Brigade, please contact Sarah at or call 239-5663.
